Upon release the wine is bright ruby in colour. There is a teasing array of vibrant red fruit on the nose including raspberry, pomegranate, cherry and plum. Spice and herbal notes, as well as a savoury underlay, add to the wine's complexity. While the palate has generous fruit weight and velvety tannins, it is balanced with refreshing acidity and a structure that gives the wine classic North Canterbury tension and pinosity.

Since its debut in 1959, Penfolds Bin 28 has been a hallmark of warm-climate Australian Shiraz, renowned for its richness and generosity. Originally sourced from the famed Kalimna Vineyard in the Barossa Valley, it has evolved into a multi-region blend, with Barossa fruit continuing to shape its unmistakable style. The 2023 vintage delivers layers of blueberry, elderberry and poached plum, wrapped in notes of cinnamon, baking spices and a hint of blueberry pie. Savoury touches of roasted meat and olive tapenade add depth, while fine chocolate-like tannins and subtle minerality bring structure and length.
